Sahara's befriending service matches those over 50 with a friendly volunteer who speaks their language for a regular chat, either in person or on the phone.

 

An Age UK report found that half a million older people go at least five or six days a week without seeing or speaking to anyone at all!

 

That's why befriending is so important. Making new friendships and sharing experiences can provide an older person with a new direction in life, open up a range of activities and lead to increased self-esteem and confidence.
